Weekends have been so busy lately that they’ve felt more like weekdays. So when I mentioned maybe getting out of the city for a day, Andrew, who’d probably been busier then I am these days, was totally in. We rented a car yesterday planning on canoeing the Minesing Swamp but my rookie knowledge and assumption that MEC (or any other camping supply store around) would rent canoes this time of year left us canoe less. Apparently no one stalks canoes until the end of April…
So I ditched my rubber boots, and our back up plan landed us in Hamilton to hike some of the Bruce trail, a trip we’d mentioned wanting to do a thousand times. (We got to hike some of the Bruce a while back when camping in Tobermory. The trail in those parts is amazing – scenery that seriously makes you question whether you’re still in Ontario.) So we set out around noon and couldn’t have asked for better weather – 16 degrees and soo sunny.
There’s something so rad about hanging in forests – everything slows down and smells good and you kinda forget the rest of life. That and all the small things in life are good again – walking accross logs, chucking stones into streams, hanging out on cliff edges. All in all, an awesome day.

Beautiful pictures! How nice to stumble across some of my favourite spots on someone else’s page. The Bruce trail is such a special place to explore, especially around the golden horseshoe, where it’s some of the only forest around! Good way to reconnect with what matters.
If you’re interested, we do a monthly series of articles about wild spaces in the hamilton area. We did one a few months back about a section of the bruce trail that you probably walked on that day. knowingtheland.wordpress.com
